Checklist
UAE Visa Requirements
To apply for a UAE tourist visa you need: a colour passport scan valid at least 6 months, a passport-style photo on a white background, and your travel details. Some nationalities are also asked for a confirmed return ticket, hotel booking, or proof of funds.
| Passport | Colour scan of the bio page; minimum 6 months validity from entry; not damaged |
|---|---|
| Photo | Recent, colour, white background, full face visible, no filters |
| Travel details | Intended arrival date; return/onward ticket recommended |
| Accommodation | Hotel booking or host details — requested for some nationalities |
| Extra documents | Occasionally requested: bank statement, old visas, national ID — depends on nationality and history |
The 5 mistakes that cause UAE visa rejections
- Blurry or cropped passport scans. The single most common reason applications bounce. Scan flat, in colour, all four corners visible.
- Name mismatches. The name entered must match the passport exactly, including middle names and spelling.
- Previous overstays or unpaid fines. These flag automatically in the immigration system. Settle fines before reapplying.
- Photos with glasses, shadows, or dark backgrounds. Follow the white-background rule strictly.
- Applying too close to travel. 24–72 hours is typical, but not guaranteed. Leave a week of margin.
Frequently asked questions
What passport validity is required for a UAE visa?
Your passport must generally be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into the UAE. Damaged passports or missing pages can cause rejection.
What are the UAE visa photo requirements?
A recent colour photo on a plain white background, face fully visible, no glasses or heavy shadows. Standard passport-photo dimensions (4.3cm x 5.5cm) are accepted; digital uploads must be clear and uncropped.
Do I need a return ticket for a UAE visa?
A confirmed return or onward ticket is commonly required at check-in and can be requested by immigration. Some applications also ask for proof of accommodation.
Do children need their own UAE visa?
Yes. Every traveller, including infants, needs their own visa or visa-on-arrival stamp. Children on eVisas apply with the same documents plus a birth certificate where requested.
